The Master is a recurring villain in the British science fiction television series Doctor Who and related media. He is a Time Lord and the Doctor's childhood friend turned arch-enemy.
First appearing in 1971, the Master is consistently portrayed as a brilliant but power-hungry sociopath driven by a desire for control and immortality. His schemes often involve elaborate plots for galactic domination or achieving a form of everlasting life, usually at the expense of others.
